A major upgrade was completed on Oct 24th, updating the WordPress plugins, fixing some problems with the pending reports queues, and improve the screens for editing your public profile.

The latest upgrade to eHive included:

• WordPress plugin enhancements (for building custom branded websites) including adding image grids, based on an object records search, to any WordPress post or page.
• Revamp of the Edit My Profile -> Public Profile screen to have a cleaner layout and allow adding a Google Map location by simply typing in your organisation’s address.
• Account profile images now stored on Amazon S3 to reduce the storage needs of the primary eHive servers
• Words with diacritics can be searched using the accented or non-accented version. e.g. Search for cafe or café to find records with café in the text.
• Bux fix to handle number and valuation validation in Firefox web browser.
• Bug fixes to the pending reporting queue.

We hope you had a great break, and are feeling refreshed and ready for 2013.  We used the Christmas and New Year break to implement an overhaul of our systems, so we are re-vamped and revving for a busy year ahead.

Here’s what we did:

– Upgraded key underlying software on the eHive servers, including the operating system.
– Added another 3 servers (eHive now runs across 10 servers)
– Split some of the application to separate servers to help us perform upgrades without having the site down for any period.
– Continued polishing our new set of developer’s tools.

The biggest part of this work has been migrating the existing database to new servers. This required several short periods of downtime for the site over the last couple of weeks but the work is now all completed.

It has been a busy time, as we also launched our WordPress plugins late last year.  Many of you have been downloading and utilising them already, which is great to see.  Our developer’s help website (www.developers.ehive.com) is the place to go for all the information you will need to get underway.  We are constantly refining and adding to what we have in place so far, so please keep an eye out for updates to the help site.

After extensive restoration of the magnificent 17^th century building, the Abingdon County Hall Museum has reopened with three floors of new exhibitions. Originally built to house law courts, since 1919 the County Hall has held a variety of local collections of geology, archaeology and history. The main gallery now tells the story of Abingdon-on-Thames, the longest continually inhabited settlement in England, and features the last MGB roadster car made in the town. Upstairs in the attic there are town treasures and objects linked to local people and places.
